Author: Kris Gonalez (Team Lead for the Switch Arm)

Objective/Goal for the week:

This week the Electrical team is responsible for completing the 3rd version of the PCB. This PCB will be sent to JLCPCB for SMT assembly and manufacturing. We hope to get this done by Friday afternoon, and the PCB should arrive by the time of the next presentation, if not shortly after.

The CAD team is still currently re-designing the Switch-Arm based off of the feedback from the 1st presentation. The main goal is to create a design that will be compatible with the latest PYS design designed by the Track team while retaining many of the designs already established by us.

The Programming team is in the process of using our 2nd version of the PCB. There has been some troubleshooting with uploading the Arduino firmware onto the ATmega328p-AU. The PCB works, evident by the attached LED on D13, so we believe the issues lie in the Arduino software itself as a bootloader. The goal is to fix this issue by the time the 3rd PCB comes around to shipping.

Individual tasks:

Yanzhen and Jose are currently re-modifying their PCB version 2 into version 3. The design is still primarily based on my PCB version 1, but they are making room for our AS5047 encoder. We are still trying to stay close to the 1 square-inch target. The deadline for PCB V3.0 is this Friday.

As stated previously, the CAD team (Jesse, Ian, Emilio) is in charge of re-designing the Switch Arm itself to fit the updated PYS. They are to communicate back-and-forth with the Track team to ensure our design will be compatible.

The programming team is to continue developing code for the Switch Arm. They will now add lines of code to include the encoder on the PCB. Jake is also currently trying to fix the bootloader problem that Arduino is currently causing us.

My (Kris) task for this week is to communicate with the other electrical teams about our setup. The main area of concern for our electronics is that there might not be enough current to run the drivers, IC's, and etc. I will also be reviewing the PCBs designed by Yanzhen and Jose, and assisting Jake with the issues of Bootloading. If time permits, assist the CAD team with their Solidworks designs.
